Lincoln Sandham composes music that aims to connect with audiences through simple and direct expressions of emotions. His interest in evolving soundscapes and musical ideas that evolve through timbre (i.e. orchestration) has been described as “very beautiful, very haunting” (The Florida Orchestra) and led Maestro Michael Francis to say “Remember [his] name, this is music that you will hear again.”
Recent and upcoming projects include Prelude for Solo Cello (2020) – an atmospheric and virtuosic exploration of the Cello’s sonic capabilities; and the score to Liminality (2020), a dance film shot entirely underwater. Liminality has been recognized by 28 national and international festivals of dance and film.
Lincoln has received the Florida Orchestra’s Student Composer Prize, the C7 prize for choral composition, took first place at Florida State University’s Digitech festival, and was featured at the 2019 ACCellerate festival. He has collaborated with the Florida Orchestra, yMusic, Transient Canvas, Polymorphia, and ECho.
Lincoln is also a passionate educator and theorist. Echoes of his love for teaching and analyzing the music of the past (particularly that of the Renaissance) can be heard throughout his music. Lincoln graduated from Baldwin Wallace University where he studied composition with Clint Needham and Jonathan Sokol. He received his Master’s of Music in Composition at the University of Louisville with Steve Rouse, and his Doctor of Music in Music Theory and Composition at Florida State University under Mark Wingate and Clifton Callender.

The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.
